Mission

Nurturing from the HeART (NFTH) offers expressive arts sessions to the most vulnerable people in our community. Using the arts as our tools (music, art, reading, writing, movement, theater, etc.) each session brings joy, comfort, education, exploration of inner self, and stress reduction to the participants. . NFTH offers a Lullaby Group (infants and caregivers connect), Rhythm and Rhyme Group (toddler through preschool and caregiver connect), Empowered Mom=Empowered Family (pregnant women including teen mom's group), and more.

Vigil Singers

The Vigil Singers carry on the ageless tradition of creating a cradle of sound for those in major life transitions. Our songs celebrate the miracle of life and its challenges.
A cradle of song grounds the body so the spirit can soar.

What is Vigil Singing?
Vigil singing is a cradle of devotional song that is sung around the bedside of a person who is in any type of major life transition. We have sung for new babies and mothers, for people recovering from illness or addictions, for those in nursing homes and hospices, and at homes. While keeping vigil, through observing, the singers create song that matches the needs of the moment.
What are the benefits?
• Stimulates relaxation response
• Reduces stress
• Relieves anxiety
• Soothes the soul
• Improves respirations
• Reduces pain
• Reduces muscle tension
• Brings joy and a profound sense of peace
Is there a cost?
There is not a set cost, but donations are graciously accepted.
Who are the Vigil Singers?
Our singers are from all walks of life and professions and have a “healer’s heart.” Among us are a social worker, occupational therapist, massage therapist, chaplain and minister, midwife, expressive arts therapist, to name a few. We attend to the person in transition in small groups of three or four.
Much of the song is improvisational. The singers also have learned chants, rounds, and songs from various traditions and eras. To better serve the person being sung to there is a short intake at the time of booking a session that asks questions such as age, musical and religious preferences, etc.
Are instruments used?
Yes, due to a generous grant from Bread for the Journey, the singers bring a Reverie Harp and Tibetan singing bowls with them. These instruments can be played while singing or listened to separately. When played, both of these instruments bring a profound sense of relaxation to the listener. The vibrations from the sound enter deeply into the body.
How are appointments made?
Sessions are by appointment only. We strive to be flexible with day and evening times available. For further information, or to book a vigil sing please contact Janice or phone: 269.599.4237
