Mission

Nurturing from the HeART (NFTH) offers expressive arts sessions to the most vulnerable people in our community. Using the arts as our tools (music, art, reading, writing, movement, theater, etc.) each session brings joy, comfort, education, exploration of inner self, and stress reduction to the participants. . NFTH offers a Lullaby Group (infants and caregivers connect), Rhythm and Rhyme Group (toddler through preschool and caregiver connect), Empowered Mom=Empowered Family (pregnant women including teen mom's group), and more.

Activities for 8-10 year olds

1) Scavenger Hunt!
2) Theater Time!

Scavenger Hunt!

I love scavenger hunts because it allows the kids to be creative, think outside the box, and gives you time to get some house-work done or be able to relax for a bit!

This activity can be done on a whim or with a little planning you can make it more challenging.

A quick way to create a scavenger hunt is to make a list like: something blue, something smooth, a leaf, a paper clip...

A more challenging scavenger hunt would be to give clues like: something that arrives everyday rain or shine, something that keeps the dog in the yard, something you think is pretty...

I also like the idea of the child drawing what they have found instead of bringing it back.  It adds another element to the activity.  Or take photos if there is access to a camera.

Theater Time!

Plays are always a fun activity.  Help your child make up a skit using basic guidelines.
For instance:  2 explorers arrive on a strange and unknown planet; you are at the beach and don't like sand but you want to go in the water; or driving to the store and something happens that doesn't allow you to get there...

You can also have your child act out stories with their toys like a puppet show.

Have fun with it and be as silly as you want!
