Mission

Nurturing from the HeART (NFTH) offers expressive arts sessions to the most vulnerable people in our community. Using the arts as our tools (music, art, reading, writing, movement, theater, etc.) each session brings joy, comfort, education, exploration of inner self, and stress reduction to the participants. . NFTH offers a Lullaby Group (infants and caregivers connect), Rhythm and Rhyme Group (toddler through preschool and caregiver connect), Empowered Mom=Empowered Family (pregnant women including teen mom's group), and more.

Activities for 1-2 year olds

1) Follow the Leader!
2) No Mess Finger Paint!
3) New Take on Play dough!

Follow the Leader!

Place tape on the ground (painters tape works best because it doesn't glue to the floor) and create pathways around the house.  Invite your child to follow the tape in different ways.  Run, jump, crawl, tiptoe...  Have you child make up their own silly ways to follow the tape and mimic them!

We pretended to be bunnies in our tunnels and hopped around and under tables.  We made bunny ears to wear as we played.

We also pretended to be moles in a tunnel - Moles are awake for 4 hours and then sleep for 4 hours at a time so we crawled like moles for (counting aloud) "1, 2, 3, 4 Hours!" and then laid down where we were and "slept" (counting aloud) for '1, 2, 3, 4 Hours!" and woke up again to crawl!  It was a lot of fun.

This activity teaches you child to listen, follow directions, pretend play, and to be silly and creative!

I loved this idea and just had to share it:

New Take on Play dough!

They say "stress ball,"  I say "introduction to play dough."  You don't have to worry about your child eating bits of play dough (although there is still a choking hazard so supervise the activity!). They get all the basic motor skills of the early play dough activities, and it is cute and no mess!
